EnerG2 materials can be used to deliver a potential step-change increase in the storage performance of traditional Li-ion electrodes.

Advancements in Li-ion cathodes and anodes will depend on improvements in their ingredient material technologies. Carbon, typically in the form of graphite or hard carbons, is already used to improve the performance of lithium cells. Nonetheless widespread adoption of electric vehicles depends on new advancements not otherwise available in existing materials.



Performance from Materials

The challenge for lithium battery manufacturers is to increase storage performance while reducing cost-per-unit of energy. Such improvements can only be accomplished by engineering the base materials used in the cells, particularly carbon, to increase the energy and cycle capability of the cells.

EnerG2 carbon can be used to increase the energy density of traditional lithium-ion anodes by multiples of traditional technologies. In addition, preliminary results have shown that our carbons improve first-cycle lithium storage efficiency by more than 15 percent over currently available carbons. EnerG2 carbons have the potential to improve overall Li-ion energy density by 30 percent at a substantially lower cost.
